What we believe

What We Believe

Our church is part of both the Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada; we embrace the mission statements and faith declarations of both bodies as presented on their respective websites.

Briefly put, here is what we believe:

God is best revealed to us not in human power or glory, but rather in God’s son, Jesus Christ, who became fully, vulnerably human and lived among us because of God’s unending, unconditional love for all humanity.

Jesus came to bring the news of God’s love to all, but particularly the poor, the sick, the oppressed and the outcast.

To show us what selfless love looks like, and to defeat death for us all, Jesus (though innocent) died a criminal’s death on a cross; after three days, Jesus rose triumphant from the grave to eternal life. Because of this, all of us, God’s beloved children, are promised eternal life, too.

We cannot earn God’s love through anything we do or don’t do, through clean living or trying hard or positive thinking. We cannot lose God’s love, either. God’s love and mercy always come to us as an amazing, extravagant gift.

Our gratitude for this gift and our love for God call us to be people who live to love and serve others.

Everything we have, everything we can do – it all comes from God. We are called to use it all responsibly, and to be generous in sharing with those in need.

God’s love and Jesus’ saving work are the reason – the only reason – we can face the future with hope and confidence.

Jesus shows us that God promises to be with us, no matter what, through all the changes and challenges in our world and our lives.
